Friday’s practice session at Daytona didn’t get off to a good start for Tony Stewart.
Stewart was black-flagged off the track after skipping a weigh-in before taking his car out to run laps at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited exhibition race.
The veteran driver and car owner was upset when he was ordered back to the garage and called before NASCAR officials. Stewart initially ignored the black flag and stayed on the track.
Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch also neglected to weigh in and were summoned back to the garage area. Drivers are required to step on the scale to help even out the weights of the cars.
Stewart declined to speak with reporters after the incident but said later on Twitter: “Well NASCAR felt compelled to make me the first to be called to the trailer 10 min into the first practice of the year. #greatstart #NASCAR
