No. 55 Brian Vickers/Aaron’s Dream Machine Homestead Preview

No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver Brian Vickers expects his shortest and fastest commute to a NASCAR Sprint Cup race this weekend when the 2014 season culminates a few miles from Vickers’ South Beach condominium where he and wife Sarah live. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver plans a dip in the ocean before firing up his motorcycle to drive to Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend.

HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY: “It’s the one track where I get to sleep in my own bed, get up and drive to the racetrack. So I am pretty pumped about that. I’ve got a Ducati Diavel (motorcycle) I am going to drive to the track every day. It’s pretty fast but I keep it under the speed limit. There is something to be said about being home and being relaxed. I’m looking forward to getting up in the morning and going surfing before going to the race track. I’m not an amazing surfer but I love it. It’s fantastic to live in Miami and be on the NASCAR circuit. It works out great. Miami Airport is great and easy to fly in and out of each week going to races, testing and to the shop.”

2014 SEASON FINALE: “Everyone is excited about the break. Nothing would make us happier than to come to Homestead and get the win. That’s our primary focus. Beyond that I think everyone is ready for some time at home. We love what we do, but our season is a long grind. When you are on the road all the time, away from home and your family, especially for these crew guys, it’s tough. Again we love what we do and it’s why we do it, but when the end of November comes around I think everyone is ready for a break.”

OFF-SEASON TRAVEL PLANS: “Right now, our plan is to go down to Colombia for Juan Montoya’s Formula Smiles charity event. The last few years have been a lot of fun, raised a lot of money and done a lot of good things down there. I hope the schedule works out and we can go again. We also try to do a family trip with my parents and sister’s family in the off-season. Honestly, it’s going to be good just to stay home for a while. We traveled so much during last year’s off season, we did an around-the-world trip, because it was our honeymoon and I was on blood thinners and couldn’t test. I think this year we want to be at home a little more. We may go to Barbados for the Race of Champions, maybe something fun for New Year’s Eve or a ski trip. We are just going to try to spend some time at home.”

2015 SEASON: “We always wish we could have gotten more out of every race. But, I think we learned a lot of lessons this year that we can take into 2015 and race for a championship. I’m already excited about what we have planned for 2015.”
