Yeley leads BK Racing to checkered flag with 30th-place finish in Phoenix

JJ Yeley led his BK Racing teammates to the checkered flag with a 30th-place finish in the No. 83 Dumb and Dumber To Toyota Camry at Phoenix International Raceway.  Yeley was followed by Alex Bowman in the No. 23 Dumb and Dumber To Toyota Camry who finished 32nd, and Cole Whitt who finished 42nd in the No. 26 Fuelxx / TapouT Muscle Recovery Toyota Camry.

Back in the No. 83 Dumb and Dumber To Toyota Camry, Yeley rolled off 41st for Sunday’s 312-mile event.  With his Toyota Camry initially tight, Yeley reported that the handling of his racecar loosened up as the run progressed.  His Dumb and Dumber To team made a series of chassis adjustments throughout the event to dial-in the balance of their racecar.  As the race progressed, Yeley’s BK Racing team was able to dial-in the handling of their Camry to make only minor adjustments to fine-tune the car as the track changed. By the time the checkered flag waved, Yeley was scored in the 30th position.

“We did all we could with our Dumb and Dumber To Toyota Camry this afternoon,” commented Yeley.  “We had a tough time getting the handling dialed in exactly as we needed early in the race, and with this being such a short, quick track, it was difficult to regain the track position we lost early in the race.  However, we got better throughout the afternoon and kept the track position we did have to bring home a top-30 finish.  All in all, I’m pretty happy with the effort by our Dumb and Dumber To team.”

Racing with a new paint scheme to promote the upcoming movie Dumb and Dumber To, Bowman rolled off 37th in Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway.  With his Toyota Camry loose in, tight through the center and loose off, Bowman worked closely with his BK Racing team to make adjustments during the early stages of the race.  Despite taking several major swings at the setup with chassis and air pressure adjustments, Bowman continued to fight the balance of his car through Phoenix’s flat turns.  Able to avoid any trouble on the track, Bowman crossed the finish line in the 32nd position.

“I had a lot of fun racing near home this weekend with our Dumb and Dumber To Toyota Camry team,” commented Bowman.  “We fought the balance of our car a bit throughout the afternoon, but we were able to avoid any trouble on the track to bring home a clean, solid finish.  I always have a lot of support from my family and friends when we race at Phoenix International Raceway, so it means a lot to me to have a good finish at this track.”

Making his second start this season at Phoenix International Raceway, Whitt rolled off 40th in the No. 26 Fuelxx / TapouT Muscle Recovery Toyota Camry on Sunday afternoon.  Throughout the early stages of the event, Whitt reported that his car was tight through the center and loose off the corners.  The Sunoco Rookie contender worked closely with his BK Racing team to address the condition and improve the balance of his car through a series of chassis and air pressure adjustments.  Shortly after completing 100 laps, Whitt called into the crew to report a potential issue in the driveline of the car.  Without power to the rear wheels, the BK Racing team took the Fuelxx / TapouT Muscle Recovery Toyota Camry behind the wall for repairs.  After spending more than 50 laps making repairs, Whitt returned to the track to log laps and gain additional positions.  However, the BK Racing team’s afternoon was cut short on lap 212 when Whitt was involved in an accident on the backstretch.  Whitt was credited with a 42nd place finish.

“We had a tough day at Phoenix with our Fuelxx / TapouT Muscle Recovery Toyota Camry team,” commented Whitt.  “It seemed like we just couldn’t catch a break.  We fought the balance of the car early in the afternoon, but really lost ground when we ran into a problem with the transmission.  At that point, we were out of contention but hoped to complete as many laps as possible.  Unfortunately, we then got caught in a late race accident to make a bad day worse.  I’m just glad everyone was okay, and I’m looking forward to getting back in the car next weekend in Miami.  We’ve had a pretty strong run this year after coming together mid-season, and I’m looking forward to finishing it out with a good race.”
