Jeff Gordon will have competitors seeing red as he races in Axalta’s automotive color of the year 2015

Heading into the final race in the 2014 Chase for the NASCAR® Sprint Cup Eliminator Round, Jeff Gordon’s burning desire to win his fifth NASCAR championship may help him get there as he pilots the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS tomorrow at Phoenix International Raceway.

The original Brilliant Flames design, created by Sam Bass, will sport a new look, as its painted in Radiant Red – Axalta’ s Automotive Color of the Year 2015. The color was selected based on Axalta Coating System’s Global Automotive Color Popularity Report, which includes research that shows a three percent increase in red cars in North America over the past year.

Axalta Vice President Nigel Budden assisted Gordon in revealing the paint scheme this week at the Axalta Engineered for Speed booth at the SEMA 2014 automotive aftermarket trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Radiant Red is made from our Cromax® Mosaic™ low VOC solvent basecoat line,” said Budden. “We also used special high chroma technology, called Vermeera™ to help ensure that the paint’s brilliance could be clearly seen on the track at Phoenix.

“There will be no mistaking the No. 24 car this weekend. Our paint has graced four of Jeff Gordon’s championship race cars. We are excited about the drive for five!”

A victory on the one-mile desert oval will secure a spot in the Championship Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“Team 24 is looking forward to the race this weekend and we’re hoping to be a contender in next week’s championship,” said Gordon. “It’s going to be an exciting race and I’m sure fans will appreciate how hot Radiant Red looks on the car.”
