Texas Motor Speedway is not only the hometown track for Bob and Sharon Leavine, the owners of Leavine Family Racing, but members of the family have completed over 2,800 laps at the speedway and it’s the site of the team’s first start in NASCAR.
“With that much history at this track, we’re striving to have an awesome finish,” said Michael McDowell, driver of the No. 95 Tommy Williams Drywall (TWD) Ford. “We’ve been working hard in 2014 and I’m really looking forward to solid finishes in these last three races. Bob and Sharon have created a great family atmosphere with this race team. Their people-first approach has been a pleasure to be a part of.”
While the Leavine Family Racing shop and team operations are based in Concord, N.C. the ownership team of Bob and Sharon Leavine have called Texas home since 1985. It’s where Leavine owns and operates WRL General Contractors, LTD and where he first sat in the driver’s seat of a NASCAR race car, further igniting a passion for the sport.
“I loved driving the stock cars at Team Texas,” recalled Bob Leavine. “My wife and best friend got me a driving experience for my birthday and I immediately fell in love with it. I had my family back there two weeks later so we all could drive. We made some great memories together.”
Over the years, the family has accumulated a combined 2,800 completed laps at the 1.5-mile speedway. Bob’s daughter, Melynda, and his grandson, Michael, joined him often at the driving experience.
Texas Motor Speedway also marks the location of the team’s first race in NASCAR. When Leavine decided to join NASCAR as a team owner, he got connected with Wally Rogers, a championship winning crew chief who became LFR’s first employee. The first chassis was acquired in March 2011 and in 30 days Rogers had it on the track at Texas Motor Speedway for the April race, where the team qualified with driver David Starr in their first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.
“Since that race, the team has been on a path for sustainable growth,” said Jeremy Lange, LFR VP. “Bob puts dedication and passion into everything he does and strives for excellence in all of his endeavors. We’ve made a lot of progress as a team this season and we’re really looking forward to taking it to the next level in 2015.”
