Gilliland Takes Pole-Winning Car Back to Plate Track

David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Long John Silver’s Ford, comments on racing at Talladega Superspeedway:

“It’s going to be insane at Talladega this week with it being a Chase cut-off race. But then, I don’t think I’ve ever been to Talladega when it wasn’t insane. I think the last couple laps are going to be wilder and crazier than we’ve ever seen. Obviously, we’re going to try to be on the front end of that, not get caught up in anybody else’s mess and try to have a good finish. We know we can do it. We’ve done it before as a team. And we feel really good about our chances to do it again.

“We’ve tried the aggressive approach as well as the lay-back-and-see-what-happens approach. You’ve got to get a feel for where you’re at, what’s happening around you, and deciding is that next chance worth taking. It’s something that is constantly running through your mind as the race progresses.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 14 Sprint Cup career starts at Talladega Superspeedway … He has two top-five and four top-10 finishes at Talladega… His top finish at the 2.66-mile tri-oval is second, which he achieved in 2013 when he pushed teammate David Ragan to Front Row Motorsports’ first win … Long John Silver’s returns as primary sponsor of the No. 38 Ford.
