The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Chicagoland Speedway located in Joliet, Ill., this weekend. Clint Bowyer brings his No. 15 PEAK Radiator Guarantee Toyota to the 1.5-mile track looking to continue the momentum after last weekend’s strong performance at Richmond International Speedway where he finished third.
Despite the strong finish the Michael Waltrip Racing driver just missed making the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup 16-car field by seven points. Bowyer may be out of the running for the championship but with seven top-10 finishes in eight races at Chicagoland, winning may not be guaranteed but with the No. 15 team in peak form, it’s certainly an option.
What’s your focus these last 10 races?
“Our focus is to run well and get a win. We had a good night in Richmond but just came up a little bit short. It’s the way our season has been. We have a strong run like last weekend but before that we had what happened in Atlanta, where our shifter broke. It just put us too far back, points wise, with only one race left. I know we are capable of winning. We had one slip away early in the year at Martinsville. I wouldn’t say that we are ready to compete for a championship right now but we are going in the right direction and we will use the rest of this year to get a win and get ready for next year.”
