Whitt records top-25 finish at Michigan

Cole Whitt and the No. 26 Iowa City Capital Partners Toyota Camry team finished 25th at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  A challenging pit stop during the final 50 laps of the race relegated Whitt to a 25th-place finish.

Competing in his second Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway, Whitt rolled off 36th for the Pure Michigan 400.  Despite fighting the balance of his car, describing it as loose on entry and tight through the center, Whitt was able to set a steady pace to climb through the field during the opening laps. Reaching the top 20 by the halfway point, Whitt worked closely with his team to discuss the handling of their Iowa City Capital Partners Toyota Camry, and to ensure the appropriate adjustments were made during pit stops.

On lap 159, Whitt was on pit road for a green flag pit stop.  After changing four tires and adding fuel, Whitt struggled to get his engine re-fired and sat on pit road losing valuable track position.  Without enough laps to make up for lost time, Whitt was relegated to a 25th-place finish.

“Our Iowa City Capital Partners Toyota Camry was a really strong racecar today,” Whitt said.  “Even though we fought the balance a bit, we were still able to pick up positions and move through the field.  Unfortunately, we had a problem on a pit stop late in the race, and we just didn’t have enough time to make up for it.  I’m looking forward to getting back to Bristol next weekend, and to continuing to build our race program every week.”
