Fore! NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer hits the links with MIS fans

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer doesn’t claim to be a great golfer, but he certainly had a lot of fun trying with Michigan International Speedway race fans on Thursday.

Bowyer, who drives the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, golfed with MIS race fans and participated in a question and answer session at the track’s Pure Michigan 400 Media Day at Thousand Oaks Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Thursday.

Bowyer, who finished 8th in the Sprint Cup race at MIS in June, is looking forward to returning to the Irish Hills for the Pure Michigan 400 on August 21.

“I enjoyed golfing with the fans today. I’m not a great golfer by any means, but I enjoyed interacting with them and supporting MIS for the upcoming Pure Michigan 400 on August 21,” Bowyer said. “MIS is a great racetrack and hopefully we can build on our top-10 finish we had there back in June. It’s a great facility and a place I personally enjoy going to every season.”

Bowyer competed with fans on the putting green, driving range and chipping area at Thousand Oaks and the fans were up to the challenge.

“MIS fans are some of the most loyal in our business and are pretty good golfers too! I enjoyed being here a lot today,” Bowyer said.

The Pure Michigan 400 is the fourth race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, therefore, it always holds a significant importance to Bowyer as he and others are trying to dethrone 5-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson. Bowyer currently sits 12th in the point standings.

“We need top-10 finishes from here on out to make the Chase,” he said. “We need to finish races and with top-10 showings the rest of the way, we have a definite shot at making it. Michigan is a key date on the schedule because we are so close to the cutoff with just three races remaining after that event on August 21. A win at Michigan would help our cause a great deal.”
