Whitt continues string of top-30 finishes at Pocono

Cole Whitt and the No. 26 Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 30th at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway on Sunday afternoon.  After fighting the balance of his car in the first half of the race, Whitt was pleased with the effects of adjustments made throughout the race and was able to drive to his ninth top-30 finish of the season.

Whitt rolled off 40th on Sunday afternoon at Pocono Raceway-the only track on the NASCAR circuit that is designed with only three turns.  Known among fans and competitors as “The Tricky Triangle,” the track lived up to its name as it challenged Whitt and his BK Racing team throughout the early stages of the race.  Unable to secure the balance Whitt hoped for, the Burger King / Dr Pepper team made a series of adjustments throughout the early stages of the race to solidify the handling of their Toyota Camry.

By the second-half of the event, the No. 26 machine was much more consistent as Whitt continued to navigate the 2.5-mile course.  After having initially lost some track position early in the event, Whitt was able to regain some ground during the later stages of the event as he took the wave around with just 20 laps remaining in the event.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Whitt was scored in the 30th position.

“I think we’re in pretty good shape for when our Burger King / Dr Pepper team returns to Pocono Raceway in a couple weeks,” commented Whitt.  “Everything about this race is unusual-from the track layout, to how short of a time frame we have here between races.  It took us about the first half of the race until we really got the handling dialed in, but I was happy with how the car drove by the end of the race.  I’m hopeful that will help us load better when we come back in August.  I’m happy that we were able to get another solid top-30 finish, but we’re looking to improve every week.  Hopefully we will be able to have an even better finish when we come back to Pocono Raceway in a few weeks.”
