NSCS: Edwards Captures Pole for Texas

Carl Edwards captured the pole for Sunday’s ninth annual AAA 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Edwards ran a fast lap of 27.535 seconds, 196.114 mph. Today marked his 18th start this season in the top-10. It also will be his first time ever in his career to start on the pole at the Texas Motor Speedway in the Sprint Cup Series.

Brad Keswelowski qualified second with a 27.537 seconds, 196.100 mph. out on his qualifying run. This will be his 15th top-10 start this season in the Cup Series and fourth in eleven starts at Texas. Keselowski was just 0.002 seconds off of the pole.

Jimmie Johnson found himself third on the speed chart when the session concluded. Johnson ran a fast time and speed of 27.559 seconds, 195.943 mph. He will roll off from the top-10 on Sunday for his 21st time in 34 races this season. It is the 14th time at Texas Motor Speedway where he has qualified in the top-10.

Current points leader Matt Kenseth will start the race from the sixth spot with a lap of 27.619 seconds, 195.518 mph.

Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. was the highest qualifying rookie after posting a lap time of 27.674 seconds, 195.129 mph.
