Stewart Faces Many Decisions On Return

Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin had high expectations going into this season with high expectations for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. The two drivers were two of the biggest fan favorites go into this racing season and with both drivers out of the running It’s going to change many things for the chase.

Denny Hamlin chances fell short after having to sit out for five races after being injured in a crash on the last lap at Auto Club Speedway. Denny was faced with a tough choice on returning or sitting out the full-season to heal his back further. Hamlin took a risky move to return to the race car as soon as he could. After missing five races, he fell all the way down to the 31st spot in the points standings going into the Talladega weekend for his return. Hamlin has really no chance at making the 2013 chase due to several recent bad finishes. He currently sits 25th in the standings going into this weekend.

Tony Stewart will most likely be out until around November or the rest of the year to fully heal from his broken leg sustained from a sprint car crash Monday evening. He will have to make a tough decision on when he will return to NASCAR’s top level. Tony’s chances of making the chase are gone however, the team currently is looking at going into the owners chase. The No. 14 Chevrolet currently sits 11th in the driver and owner points standings going into this weekend’s race.

Drivers should be able to run as many races as they can during the week. No matter how safe the cars can be, they’ll always be injuries happening to the drivers. Safety will never be enough in a sport where cars are running at high speeds.
