Biffle Earns Top-10 Finish at Sonoma

Greg Biffle continued his streak of top-10 finishes at Sonoma by showcasing his road-racing skills and crossing the finish line ninth.  Biffle started the 110-lap event 19thin his No. 16 3M Ford and had all intentions of making the race on just two pit stops, until multiple cautions toward the end of the race foiled the teams strategy.

“I thought we definitely had a top-five car,” said Biffle.  “But, every time the caution came out, we were coming to pit that lap and the caution was out and that just killed us all day, but that’s the way it goes.  This is probably more about the driver than aero, but it was good to get a positive result and now we’ll see how we can do next week at Kentucky.”

Pit strategy is always a factor at Sonoma.  Crew chief Matt Puccia had all intentions of making the race on two pit stops, while others would have to opt for three.  The plan came together nicely in the first half of the race and Biffle battled his way into the top five on the track.

As the race unfolded there were multiple cautions on the track, which allowed many people to be set on fuel and showed that tires helped make up some ground.  Biffle pitted under the final caution on lap 93 for four fresh tires and fuel, restarting the race 15th.  From there Biffle charged through the field in the closing laps to earn a ninth-place finish.
