Whitt races to 28th-place finish in Michigan

Cole Whitt and the No. 26 Speed Stick GEAR Toyota Camry team finished 28th at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  After working with his team throughout the 200-lap event to refine the balance of their Toyota Camry, the driver was able to secure a 28th-place finish, marking his 10th top-30 result of the season.

Whitt rolled off 42nd in the No. 26 Speed Stick GEAR Toyota for his first career Sprint Cup Series start at the two-mile Michigan International Speedway.  Despite fighting a loose-off handling condition, the Sunoco Rookie contender picked up 11 positions in the opening laps to be scored in the 31st position by lap 10.  Easily able to maintain his position inside the top 35 throughout the first half of the event, Whitt worked closely with his BK Racing crew to fine-tune the handling of their Toyota Camry.  With a series of air pressure and chassis adjustments, the team was able to improve their car on the short run.  Able to avoid any on-track incidents, Whitt maintained his track position to drive to a 28th-place finish.

“I’m really happy that our Speed Stick GEAR Toyota team has been able to build some consistency in our finishes,” commented Whitt, following the team’s 10th top-30 finish.  “Clearly our next goal would be to build on that consistency-first get consistent top-25 finishes, then top 20, and so on.  Even though we only came together in late April, our team at BK Racing has meshed really well.  I think we have a solid foundation that we can continue to build on throughout the season and I’m excited to be racing the No. 26 Toyota Camry every week.”
