NSCS: Johnson Scores Victory at Michigan

Jimmie Johnson captured his third victory of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and his first win at the 2.0-mile oval at Michigan. Even though Kevin Harvick had the most dominate car of the afternoon, Johnson was able to keep in front of him to lead the second most laps today of 39. Johnson will head into next weekend’s race at the Sonoma Raceway looking for his 70th career win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Finishing in the second spot after having the srongest car all afternoon long was Kevin Harvick. Harvick led a total of 63 laps to score his seventh top-10 finish of the 2014 race season. In twelve of the 15 races ran so far this year, Harvick has atleast led one lap, but each fell short of the victory. He was just 1.214 seconds behind the race winner Jimmie Johnson this afternoon.

Finishing in the third spot after being passed by Harvick in the closing laps was Brad Keselowski. Keselowski led a total of four laps during the afternoon but just could not get a steady lead. Today’s run gave the 30-year-old local driver his eighth top-10 finish of the 2014 racing season and hopes this will give the team more momentum going into next weekend at Sonoma.

The next race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take place at the Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, July 22nd. This will be the first of two stops at a road course this season for the tour. You can catch the action at 2:00 p.m. Et, live on TNT. The Motor Racing Network will provide live radio coverage of the event.
