Bowman overcomes balance struggles, finishes 31st in Pocono

Alex Bowman and the No. 23 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 31st at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway on Sunday, June 8.  After fighting the balance of his car early in the race, Bowman’s team made a series of adjustments to noticeably improve his car by the closing laps of the race.

Competing for the first time in the Sprint Cup Series at Pocono Raceway, Bowman rolled off 34th at the track nicknamed “The Tricky Triangle.”  NASCAR’s only triangular-shaped speedway poses a unique set of challenges for competitors as they take on the three vastly different corners at the track located in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains.  Challenged by the handling of his car throughout the early portions of the race, Bowman worked closely with his Dr Pepper crew to dial in the balance of their racecar.

Making a series of air pressure and chassis adjustments throughout the event greatly improved the handling of Bowman’s Dr Pepper Toyota Camry over the early stages of the race.  By the final laps of the race, Bowman and his BK Racing team were able to incorporate some on-track strategy into their race as they took the wave-around in an attempt to regain some track position.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Bowman was scored in the 31st position.

“Our Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team worked really hard this weekend,” commented Bowman.  “It was my first trip back to Pocono Raceway in a couple years, and the first time I’ve been here in a Sprint Cup car.  These cars are heavier and have more horsepower than what I’ve raced here in the past, so I had to adjust my line and get used to the track.  We were fighting the handling a bit during the early stages of the race, but we were able to make a few adjustments and really dial in the handling.  By the end of the race, I was very happy with the car, so hopefully that will help us when we come back to race at Pocono Raceway in just a few weeks.”
