On Monday BK Racing announced that David Reutimann will not drive for the team in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Reutimann drove the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota in all 36 races during his one and only full season with the team in 2013.
The 43-year-old struggled much of the season scoring a best finish of 16th in the Daytona 500 and having nine DNF’s. That relegated Reutimann to a 33rd place finish in the driver standings which was the worst of any of his five full seasons at the Cup level.
Reutimann scored two wins while driving for Michael Waltrip Racing, one in 2009 and one in 2010 but was let go from MWR after 2011 when his production fell off. He raced twice for BK Racing during the 2012 season while also running for Tommy Baldwin Racing before taking over the No. 83 car after the team parted ways with Landon Cassill before the 2013 season. In 232 career Cup starts he has the two wins and 26 top 10’s. He also has one career win in both the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series.
Alex Bowman and Ryan Truex will be testing the two BK Racing cars on Thursday and Friday of this week during Preseason Thunder Testing at Daytona International Speedway. Travis Kvapil, who has spent the past two seasons driving for BK Racing, will not be at the test. The team has yet to make an announcement regarding their driver lineup for the 2014 season. There also is not word on any plans for Reutimann’s future yet.
