Black’s Tire raises more than $85K for Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina

Despite a damp and gloomy start, the 14th annual Black’s Tire and Auto Service Charity Golf Tournament netted record support for the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina. This year’s tournament, held at Long Bay Golf Club in Longs, S.C., brought in $85,934 for the Boys and Girls Homes; surpassing last years then-record $75,092.

“We are proud to lend our support to the efforts of the Homes,” said Ricky Benton, owner of Black’s Tire and Auto Service and Ricky Benton Racing (RBR) Enterprises. “What we are doing here today is giving a child a chance to become that special being God gave life to. The children who receive care there have a chance to better themselves.

“Dianne and I wish to thank all of you for your time and resources to assist us in this venture.”

This year’s tournament, held on Sept. 5, saw 125 golfers take to the links at Long Bay.

The golf outing was part of a weekend of celebration and charitable work by the Bentons, their family, co-workers, friends and business associates as they observed Black’s Tire’s 85th anniversary. On Saturday, Black’s Tire hosted a Family Fun Day with food, games, competitions and music was held at the Boys and Girls Homes of NC Farm and Exhibition Center for the staff and family, vendors, customers and the children and staff of the Boys and Girls Homes.

“This is an unbelievable gift to our children and support of our efforts for them,” said Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina President and CEO Gary Faircloth. “The number of children living in poverty and suffering from the ills of abuse and neglect are astounding.

“Having spent several years in the care of Boys Homes ourselves, Dr. Tom Simmons (former resident and Boys and Girls Homes Flemington Academy principal) and I know firsthand what it means for someone to reach out and say ‘You are special and we are here for you.’ Ricky and Dianne, their family, co-workers, friends and business associates are truly great friends of the children who come to us for care. No one knows the hours and the effort that go into putting this great event together for our children but I am truly grateful for the love and support of Ricky and Dianne and everyone associated with Black’s Tire & Auto Service.”

Since its inception, the Black’s Tire golf tournament has raised more than $580,000 for the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina.

This year’s tournament was won by Joey Stephenson, Ray Stephenson, Richard Sibbett, and Trent Palmer.
