Dakoda Armstrong Talladega Superspeedway NCWTS Advance

Drafting Success… An admitted fondness for restrictor plate racing has made this weekend’s trip to Talladega Superspeedway one to look forward to for Dakoda Armstrong. A previous Talladega Superspeedway win on his racing resume in the ARCA Racing Series in 201, along with his affinity for racing in the pack, bolsters the Indiana-native’s confidence heading into this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at the 2.66-mile oval. NCWTS veteran Richie Wauters has also joined the team to assist in leading the No. 60 crew and boost performance of the WinField Silverado in the final five races of the season. With the break in competition coming at a perfect time for Armstrong and the team, a regrouped organization will battle for a chance at the victory in the fred’s 250 powered by Coca-Cola this Saturday.

Off-Week NNS Racing… Though the NCWTS took a two-week sabbatical from competition, Armstrong didn’t take as much time away from NASCAR competition. Completing his final of five scheduled NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts this season with Richard Childress Racing, Armstrong climbed behind the wheel of the No. 21 WinField Camaro at Kansas Speedway. Struggling with tight handling conditions throughout most of the weekend, the 22-year-old driver managed a 19th place finish. However, with three of his other five starts resulting in top-15 finishes, Armstrong was pleased with the overall performance of his NNS starts in 2013.

“Kansas is a really sensitive track and you’re on edge no matter if your car is perfect or not, but I think regardless of what our finish showed I really learned a lot in my last Nationwide Series race for this season,” Armstrong explained. “This RCR crew really did a great job making changes and gave me a really fast Camaro to compete with in each of the five races we had together this year and I’m thankful for the chance to drive for them. I’m excited to build on what I learned in the future.”

This Weekend’s WinField Silverado… Converted to a Chevrolet Silverado for this weekend’s competition by Wauters and the No. 60 WinField crew, chassis No. 002 will see competition for the fourth time in its career. Driven by Aric Almirola in last year’s fred’s 250 at Talladega, this chassis qualified fourth and led several laps before a mechanical failure ended its chances of a solid finish.

Previous Race Recap: Las Vegas Motor Speedway… Making his first career start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two weeks ago, Dakoda Armstrong hoped for first-time luck to carry him to a much-needed solid finish in the 17th race of the NCWTS season. Rolling the dice with a newly rebuilt WinField Silverado, crew chief Doug George and the Turn One Racing team began race day on Saturday behind the curve after discovering an issue with the right front fender that would require extensive repair. Armstrong began the Smith’s 350 from the 20th position and maintained a clean race; safely evading all nine cautions for incidents throughout the night and pulling through in the closing laps to come home 16th.

Dakoda Armstrong on Talladega…

“I know there’s a lot of differing opinions about racing at Talladega and Daytona, but I really like restrictor plate racing. I feel like it’s easier for me; there’s a lot less pressure involved in the perfection of the setup and it’s more about how the driver can stay in contention during the race. I love how wide Talladega is compared to Daytona and the third groove is awesome. I’m pretty confident about our chances and we’ve got a really great WinField Silverado this weekend.”
