Mayhew, BKR Suffer Parts Failure in Kentucky

David Mayhew finished 26th in his second start for Brad Keselowski Racing (BKR) on Friday night at Kentucky Speedway. Mayhew piloted the No. 19 Steak and Grape / MMI Services RAM in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Kentucky 201.

Mayhew qualified the BKR RAM in the 15th position to start the race. A spin by Todd Bodine brought out the first yellow flag of the night on lap 15. Crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz called Mayhew into the pits for a fuel only stop and additional grill tape.

The No. 19 Steak and Grape / MMI Services RAM restarted in the 16th position on the lap 20 restart. The second yellow flag of the night waved on the next lap after the restart. This time a multi-truck incident occurred coming out of turn four when Bodine, Johnny Sauter, and Timothy George, Jr. got together. Stankiewicz kept the No. 19 BKR RAM on track in favor of position.

Mayhew restarted the race in the in the 12th position on the lap 32 restart. Another quick yellow fell on lap 33 with the team electing again take advantage of track position versus pit service. Mayhew restarted in ninth position for the lap 42 restart. On lap 45, the caution waved once again for a Brennan Newberry spin in turn three. Mayhew radioed to the team that his break pedal was going to the floor, which was a preview of a long night to come. The team raised the hood and made multiple stops under yellow to diagnose the problem. The No. 19 Steak and Grape / MMI Services RAM restarted in the 24th position for the lap 56 restart.

On lap 57, Mayhew was forced to the NCWTS garage due to a break rotor failure. The No. 19 BKR team did not make it back on to the track and finished in the 26th position at Kentucky Speedway.

“We had one of the fastest trucks tonight in clean air, but struggled in traffic,” said Mayhew. “We worked on our Steak and Grape / MMI Services RAM a lot tonight. Unfortunately, a parts failure sidelined us tonight. I’m looking forward to Las Vegas next weekend and getting back behind the wheel of my No. 19 BKR RAM in Texas.”

Mayhew will pilot the No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports machine next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He returns to the No. 19 Steak and Grape / MMI Services RAM at Texas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway this November. Race Coverage for the Smith’s 350 at Las Vegas will air live on SPEED Channel at 8:00 P.M. EDT. Radio coverage can be found on MRN and Sirius XM Channel 90 beginning at 7:45 P.M. EDT.
