Race Highlights:

  • Richard Childress Racing teammates finished fourth (Ty Dillon), ninth (Tim George Jr.) and 14th (Joey Coulter). 
  • Dillon is the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point leader by one marker; Coulter ranks fifth in the standings.
  • The No. 3 Chevrolet team is the Camping World Truck Series owner championship point leader, with the No. 22 team fourth in the standings and the No. 2 team 10th.
  • Dillon leads the Sunoco Rookie of the Year point standings ahead of Cale Gale.

  • According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, Dillon earned the highest Driver Rating (113.8), while Coulter ranked 10th with a rating of 86.3.

  • RCR drivers made a total of 465 Green Flag Passes during the 94-lap event with George earning 224 passes, Coulter with 172 and Dillon with 69 passes.
  • Dillon scored the second-highest Average Running Position of 4.064, while Coulter ranked seventh with a 9.426 and George was 12th with a 14.447.
  • George was the 10th-Fastest Driver on Restarts in Saturday’s affair.
  • Coulter ranked the sixth-Fastest Driver Early in a Run, while Dillon was the seventh-quickest and George ranked 16th.
  • Dillon spent 100 percent of the event in the top 15, ranking him first among the rest of the field, while Coulter ranked fifth (88.3 percent).
  • Parker Kligerman took the checkered flag at Talladega Superspeedway for his first career Camping World Truck Series win and was followed to the line by Johnny Sauter, James Buescher, Dillon and Timothy Peters.
  • The next scheduled Camping World Truck Series race is the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 27. The 19th race of the 2012 season is scheduled to be televised live on SPEED beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time and broadcast live on Motor Racing Network beginning at 1:45 p.m.     
  

 Tim George Jr. Scores Top-10 Finish in Talladega Superspeedway Thriller

 

Tim George Jr. and the No. 2 Applebee’s/Potomac Family Dining Group team scored a top-10 finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Talladega Superspeedway. After starting the 94-lap affair in the 16th position, George climbed into the top 10 in the early stages of the race where he remained until the No. 2 Chevrolet was shuffled to the back of the pack. George radioed to crew chief Gere Kennon that he was happy with the handling of his Richard Childress Racing machine, but felt the truck was a little tight on entry to the 32-degree banked corners of the 2.66-mile facility. A lap 32 caution period allowed the Applebee’s pit crew an opportunity to change right-side tires on No. 2 Chevrolet and remedy the tight-handling condition. For the remainder of the event, George found himself hovering in and around the top 15 until the next-to-last caution flag of the race was displayed on lap 84. Restarting in the 11th position with six laps to go, George practiced patience running in a tight pack and persevered to a ninth-place finish. The top-10 finish was his first of the 2012 NCWTS season. The No. 2 Chevrolet team remains 10th in Camping World Truck Series owner championship point standings.

“The Applebee’s/Potomac Family Dining Group Chevrolet was really fast today. It’s great to get our first top-10 finish of the 2012 season here because I’ve always liked it at Talladega Superspeedway. My guys were perfect on pit stops and spotter Stevie (Reeves) was just great today by keeping me out of trouble and showing me the best line on the track. This is a real boost heading into my next race at Martinsville Speedway in a few weeks.”

Ty Dillon Rallies to a Fourth-Place Finish at Talladega Superspeedway

 

Starting from the pole position for the third time this season, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team endured tandem racing at Talladega Superspeedway to finish in the fourth position for the 94-lap affair Saturday afternoon. Dillon earned his third career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole award on Friday posting the fastest time of 177.291 mph. After the initial green flag waved, Dillon led for the first nine laps before a two-truck tandem drove by on the outside lane placing the No. 3 Chevrolet in the fifth position. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called Dillon to pit road under yellow-flag conditions on lap 15 for fuel only, positioning the team in the lead for the restart. Dillon ran within the top 10 for the entire event, utilizing the draft to make his way back to the front to lead for 25 circuits around the 2.66-mile track. He restarted sixth on lap 88 and hooked up with the No. 31 Chevrolet to drive to the second position. As other teams found their dancing partners, Dillon and the No. 31 team maneuvered in the top five for the final laps with the 2012 Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender ultimately crossing the finish line in the fourth position. Dillon remains the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point leader with four races to go in the season.

“Man that was fun. I’m glad it’s over, but it was fun. The No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet was fast in the draft. We hooked up with James (Buescher) there at the end and got a little loose. I thought we were going to wreck, but we held on to it and finished with a top-five result.”

    

Joey Coulter Finishes 14th at Talladega Superspeedway

 

Joey Coulter and the No. 22 Husky Liners team finished 14th in the fred’s 250 powered by Coca-Cola at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon. The 22-year-old driver started the 94-lap event from the 11th position and was shuffled throughout the field during the early laps. Happy with the handling of the Husky Liners Chevrolet, the Harold Holly-led pit crew opted for fuel-only pit stops on laps 15, 32 and 46. The quick visits to pit road allowed Coulter to maintain a position in the top 15, running as high as third. The Miami Springs, Fla.-native wheeled his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet down pit road for one final pit stop on lap 61 for right-side tires and fuel under caution. Coulter was scored in the 15th position for the ensuing restart and worked his way back into the top 10 during the final laps when he lost his drafting partner. Coulter fell back to the 22nd spot with one lap remaining in the race and ultimately crossed the finish line in the 14th position. Following the top-15 finish, Coulter remains fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings, 50 markers behind the leader.

“This was a disappointing finish to say the least. We had such a good truck today and the Husky Liner team did a great job all weekend, I just wish we would have had a better finish to show for our efforts. We lost our drafting partner at the end and fell to the back of the pack. We’ll move on from this, enjoy a few weekends off and get back at it when we go to Martinsville (Speedway) in two weeks.”
