Chase Briscoe Dover Breakdown

Chase Briscoe experienced career highs and lows in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Dover International Speedway. Briscoe earned his first Keystone Light Pole Award, the second Dover pole for Brad Keselowski Racing, and led his first laps of the season. Unfortunately, a loose wheel following the team’s final scheduled stop with less than 30 laps to go took the No. 29 off the lead lap and out of contention for the win. Briscoe recovered and brought home a 12th-place finish, and now sits fifth in the series championship standings.

Briscoe’s day began by ripping off a lap of 23.007 seconds in qualifying, earning BKR its first pole of the 2017 season. Following the wave of the green flag, Briscoe’s speed continued, and he was scored in the second position at the conclusion of the first stage. Crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. called the Cooper Standard Ford to pit road for four tires, fuel and a minor air-pressure adjustment.  Briscoe was second off pit road, but restarted in 13th for the green flag after several trucks on the lead lap chose not to pit.

Briscoe had worked his way up to sixth by the time the caution flag waved on lap 86, and Hillman made the call to visit pit road, choosing race strategy over track position for the conclusion of the second stage. The move paid off: Briscoe, armed with fresh tires and fuel, took the green flag from the fourth position when the final stage began on lap 100. A long green-flag run followed, and on lap 165, the driver of the Cooper Standard Ford F-150 grabbed the lead, holding the top spot for three laps before making a scheduled green-flag pit stop.

As he emerged from the pit road, Briscoe’s left-front tire came loose and was cast from its hub, bringing out the caution and resulting in minor damage to his F-150. The sequence of events dropped Briscoe a lap down, but he still had one of the fastest trucks on the racetrack. He recovered in the closing laps to score a 12th-place finish at the checkered flag.
