5th Grader Juan Ochoa Wins Driven to Read Logo Contest

Driven to Read (DTR), a reading incentive program designed to encourage youngsters to increase their reading proficiency through the power of NASCAR, announced today Las Vegas 5th grader, Juan Ochoa, winner of the 2011 DTR logo contest.

DTR is aimed at elementary school age readers. Kids in the program must read for 15 minutes to gain 1 mile on the track. Vision Aviation Racing driver Dusty Davis visits schools to launch the program, bringing with him the race car hauler and truck for display. The program uses racing themes to inspire student participation.

Juan Ochoa’s racecar inspired design was selected from over 200 submissions and will now serve as the official logo for the program. VAR driver, Dusty Davis, paid a visit to Ochoa’s school, Roundy Elementary, to announce Ochoa as the winner in a school wide assembly and present him with a Nintendo DSI and a Super Mario Kart racing game.

Students at Roundy Elementary, where DTR kicked off last fall, have fully embraced the program. DTR has since visited two other elementary schools with overwhelming results. The program plans to visit more area schools around the Camping World Truck Series circuit where VAR will be racing two trucks in 2011.
