Tyler Reddick – Talladega Superspeedway Recap 2016

The Big One ended Tyler Reddick’s (@TylerReddick) strong run just before halfway in the fred’s 250 Saturday afternoon at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

The driver of the No. 29 Cooper Standard Accelerate Manufacturing Ford F-150 led once for 16 laps and was running inside the top 10 when his afternoon ended on lap 61.  Reddick was swept up in a multi-vehicle accident in Turn 1 and the damage was too significant for him to continue.  Reddick was credited with a 26th-place finish in the final rundown and remains ninth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings.

Reddick qualified 16th during time trials Saturday morning and ran among the top dozen in the lead draft pack during the opening stages of the 94-lap, 250-mile race.  During the first caution, he and teammates Daniel Hemric and Austin Cindric stayed out while the other leaders pitted on lap 16.  The Brad Keselowski Racing trio lined up one-two-three when the race went green on lap 20, with Reddick leading the way.  He held the top spot until lap 31 and was second when the caution slowed the field on lap 37.  One lap later, he pitted for right-side tires and fuel and lined up ninth when the race went green on lap 40.

Reddick was running in the lead draft between teammates Daniel Hemric and Austin Cindric when John Wes Townley spun while running at the front of the pack on lap 44. All three BKR trucks made contact in a chain reaction effect while trying to avoid the accident. All three vehicles received a bit of cosmetic damage, while Hemric also spun.  Reddick made multiple stops during the caution for minor repairs and restarted outside the top 20 when the race went green on lap 49.

Over the next eight laps, Reddick steadily worked his way through the draft.  He was up to 19th when the fourth caution slowed the race on lap 52.  One lap later, he made a fuel-only stop and restarted 14th on lap 57.

Reddick had just climbed into the top 10 when his day soured on lap 61.  Ben Rhodes spun at the entrance to Turn 1, triggering a 14-truck pileup that pinned Reddick against the outside wall. The damage was too much for him to continue, leaving him with a 26th-place finish.
