Battery Issue Results In 21st-Place Finish for Hemric in Phoenix

Daniel Hemric and his NTS Motorsports team were running in the top five and appeared on the verge of a great night in the penultimate race of the season at Phoenix International Raceway. Hemric had a fast truck in the opening laps of the Lucas Oil 150, but suddenly lost power on lap 46, forcing him several laps down and relegating him to a 21st-place finish.

Taking the green flag from the 13th position, Hemric initially reported that his California Clean Power Chevrolet was free on exit and rolling good through the center, advancing up to the 10th position by the time the first caution flag of the night was displayed on lap seven. With his Chevrolet Silverado tightening up and the handling coming to him, Hemric was eighth when the yellow flag waved on lap 40. Coming to pit road for four tires, fuel and both air-pressure and track-bar adjustments, a fast stop put Hemric back on track in the fifth position for the lap 44 restart. Battling within the top five, it looked like Hemric was capable of challenging for the lead. Unfortunately, just as an accident brought out the caution two laps later, the 24-year-old reported that his truck had suddenly lost all power. Hemric immediately pulled into the pits where the team troubleshot the issue, determining that there was an issue with the truck’s battery. After replacing the battery, Hemric returned to the track with a competitive truck, but was mired multiple laps behind the leaders in the 26th position. Despite fast lap times, Hemric was only able to make up a few spots in the remaining laps, crossing the finish line in the 21st position, six laps down.

Daniel Hemric on Phoenix International Raceway
“My NTS Motorsports team built me a really fast California Clean Power Chevrolet this weekend. We felt good about our truck from the time we unloaded, and we really had our truck dialed in for race conditions. Once the green flag waved, my truck was really coming to me, and I thought we were going to be in really good shape. Unfortunately, all of a sudden, my truck completely lost power; no voltage, no lights. My guys were able to resolve the issue fairly quickly, but once you’re that many laps down, the only way you can gain spots is to make it until the end. I’m proud of the fact that we had a lot of speed, I just wish it could have shown in the final results.”
