Starting Saturday morning off at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway with a track-best qualifying effort of 18th, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver, Tyler Young, continued his success, racing to a track-best finish of 10th in the fred's 250 powered by Coca-Cola, his second top-10 finish of the 2015 NCWTS season.
Trying to experiment with drafting techniques at the drop of the green flag, Young made a strong move to the outside lane, but was shuffled to the rear of the 32-truck pack. Quickly trying to make his way back through the field; the 25 year-old-driver caught a break when the race's first caution came out on lap 13. Crew chief Bryan Berry made the call for two right side tires and fuel for the No. 02 AKL Insurance Group/Young's Building Systems Chevrolet Silverado, allowing Young to restart the race from the 19th position.
Mixing it up in the middle of the pack, the Texas native had another chance to hit pit road when the caution flag flew again on lap 37. Berry elected for two right side tires and fuel, again, but also a track bar adjustment to aid in an "aero tight" handling Chevrolet Silverado.
Just past the halfway mark of the 94-lap event, Young was scored within the top-15. Teaming up with a couple other front-runners, Young came down pit road for green flag pit stops, on lap 74, for two tires and enough fuel to make it to the checkered flag.
In the final 24 laps, Young would survive four cautions, including the "Big One," and the race's only green-white-checkered flag attempt, to finish 10th behind eventual race winner, Timothy Peters. The top-10 effort was Young's second top-10 finish of the 2015 NCWTS season.
"I pulled out early, by ourselves, at the start of the race, just to see how the truck ran. We ended up running the pack back down, so you could see that the truck was clearly good right off the bat. You just had to be patient. It got three-wide right away, and I didn't feel like that was the right call to be in the middle of. I just rode around really, picking up spots where I could, without putting myself in a bad position. A top-10 is a good effort overall. It's only our second top-10 finish of the year, but I feel like we should have had quite a few more than that. Hopefully this race gives us some momentum heading to Martinsville next week."
