Tough Day for John Wes Townley in Martinsville

John Wes Townley’s, piloting the No. 05 Zaxby’s NASCAR Camping World Toyota Tundra, day ended early at Martinsville Speedway after he was involved in an accident on lap 152 of 200 in the running of the Kroger 200 Saturday afternoon.

Townley who started in the 16th-place position for the race had advanced to the 10th place when he was involved in a multitruck incident on lap 149.  The accident sent the Watkinsville, GA driver hard into the inside and outside safer barriers on the .526 mile Virginia track.

“We were out there racing pretty good up until that point,” John Wes Townley said.  “We had made a decent recovery as we were struggling in practice earlier in the week. We fell back a little bit earlier in the race but were moving back up hoping to a top 10 finish for Zaxby’s.  I guess my spotter just cleared me and I wasn’t clear and told me to come down.  It happened so fast and it certainly wasn’t what this Athenian Motorsports team wanted, especially since we had a decent truck.  It is what it is — it’s a racing incident and we’ll move forward and see what we can do to improve our luck for the remainder of the season.”

Townley and the Athenian Motorsports teams head to Texas Motor Speedway next weekend where the Zaxby’s driver will compete in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series events.
