Townley Back to Battle at Bristol in NCWTS & NNS Events in Zaxby’s Toyotas

After a nineteen day hiatus from racing, John Wes Townley will make his return in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Townley was injured in ARCA Racing qualifying at Pocono Raceway on August 1, 2014 and has not raced since.  NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Clint Bowyer piloted the No. 05 Zaxby’s Toyota for Townley at Pocono with Travis Kvapil driving the Athenian Motorsports entry in Michigan.
“It is really hard watching someone race your truck,” John Wes Townley said.  “Clint (Bowyer) did a heck of a job and I learned a lot from watching him.  I can’t thank him enough for jumping in at Pocono and for Travis (Kvapil) to be my backup driver last week at Michigan.  It really means so much to me.  Now it is my time to go back in and drive the Zaxby’s Toyotas’ this week in Bristol.”

Townley has six previous NASCAR Nationwide Series and three previous NCWTS starts at the .533-mile Bristol, Virginia short track.

“Bristol is a crap shoot,” Townley said.  “The track is so short and fast you really need to save your brakes and try to keep good track position.  You can easily get caught up in an incident at Bristol; your spotter is your best friend to try to keep you out of trouble.  I’m looking forward to being back behind the wheel and hoping to bring home a top finish for Zaxby’s and Athenian (Motorsports) in both the truck and Nationwide (Series) car.”
