Kyle Busch ‘Rowdacus’

With Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway dubbing itself “The Last Great Colosseum,” with his record 16 NASCAR National Series wins at the challenging high-banked half-mile oval, Kyle ‘Rowdy’ Busch is among the arena’s greatest gladiators.  ‘Rowdacus’ will take aim at his 17th Bristol win Wednesday night behind the wheel of the No. 51 Dollar General Tundra in the UNOH 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

Four of Busch’s record-setting 16 wins in “Thunder Valley” have come behind the wheel of a Tundra, including his win in last year’s Truck Series event. Most notably, the Las Vegas native made history in August of 2010 when he became the first driver in NASCAR history to post a ‘Trifecta’ – sweeping all three of NASCAR’s top series at one track on the same weekend.  He is the career wins leader at the track in both the Truck Series and Nationwide Series (7) and is tied with his brother Kurt and Jeff Gordon as the active wins leader (5) in the Sprint Cup Series.

After seeing his six-race Truck Series winning streak come to an end Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Bristol could be the ideal place for Busch to start a new winning streak. Kyle Busch Motorsports’ (KBM) owner-driver ended the 2013 season with a win at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway and then started off his 2014 schedule with victories in each of his first five starts; winning at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Dover (Del.) International Speedway and Kentucky Speedway in Sparta.

Dollar General will be onboard the No. 51 Tundra this weekend for the second of its four races as a primary sponsor this season, three with Busch and one with Erik Jones. KBM drivers have registered seven wins – including the team’s historic first victory at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway in April of 2010 – and 16 top-five finishes across 29 races with the nation’s largest small-box discount retailer adorning the team’s Toyotas. Busch has scored six of those wins to go along with 13 top-five finishes across his 16 starts in the yellow Tundra.

‘Rowdacus’ will take aim at another Bristol Motor Speedeway ‘Trifecta’ beginning with the UNOH 200 Truck Series event on Wednesday night and look to continue his legacy as one of the greatest gladiators to do battle at “The Last Great Colosseum.”
