A Disappointing Night for Timothy Peters at Iowa

After winning the last two consecutive July NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events at Iowa Speedway, a three-peat was not in the cards for Red Horse Racing and Timothy Peters. After posting the third-fastest lap in the only practice session for the day due to the inclement weather, the Danville, Virginia resident advanced to the final round of knockout qualifying to earn the third starting position for the American Ethanol 200 presented by Enogen. Shortly after the green flag was displayed, Peters settled into the fifth position. He reported to crew chief Marcus Richmond that the red and white Toyota Tundra was handling a little on the tight side. The No. 17 Red Horse Racing pit crew serviced the truck with four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment during the first pit stop of the night while under caution on lap 41. The second caution flag of the night was displayed when a truck spun in Turn 2. Following the restart, Peters was battling for position on Lap 61 when he made contact with another truck. He sustained adequate damage and drove to the garage where the Richmond-led team went to work to make the needed repairs and replace the radiator before returning him to the track, 60 laps down to the leader. Peters was scored in the 31st position when the checkered flag flew at the Newton, Iowa race track.

Timothy Peters Quote:

“It was just one of those racing things tonight. We thought we were clear, and we made contact with the No. 30. Marcus (Richmond, crew chief) and the No. 17 guys worked hard and fast to get us back out on the track. We’ll just move forward and focus on our next race at Eldora (Speedway).”
