Ray Black Jr. Behind Wheel of No. 07 at Gateway

Ray Black Jr. will make his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start behind the wheel of the No. 07 Scubalife/NASE Worldwide Silverado for SS Green Light Racing. The NCWTS returns to the Gateway Motorsports Park following a three-year absence at the track. The Drivin’ for Linemen 200 will run under the lights Saturday night, just a few miles from the famed Gateway Arch.

The Florida late-model racer made his first start earlier this season at Martinsville, finishing 24th. Black continually improved his lap times during the race as he adapted to racing the heavier trucks. “I learned in the first race that you have to be consistent and pace yourself. These are long races and you have to do your best to stay out of trouble to be able to finish,” states Black.

He continues, “I’ve never raced on a track as large as Gateway, but we went there and tested a few weeks back. I got a few laps on the track and it was a lot of fun. We had a great test and I learned a lot. It was fast and I really liked it!”

Gateway’s egg-shaped layout can be challenging for even the most experienced drivers, but Black feels the test will help him to get up to speed on race weekend. “It will be a fun challenge for the team and myself to get the truck to handle at both ends and to run real fast. There is one turn that is real fast and the other end you have to slow the truck way down and get off of a tricky transition onto the backstretch,” Black states.

“It’s fun to have a track with difference corners like that, I got loose off of two during the test and went around, but I learned how the truck feels and I know how hard I can push it now, so it was a good learning experience. My goal is to be running at the finish and continue that streak; we’re going to try to stay on the lead lap and get a solid finish” concluded Black.

The Drivin’ for Linemen 200 is the 320th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team, a streak that dates back to 2001.
