Bad Luck Relegates Timothy Peters to 24th-Place Finish at Texas

As the sun set over Texas Motor Speedway, Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team took the green flag from the 15th position to start the WinStar World Casino and Resort 400. Six laps into the 167-lap event, the right rear tire on the red and white machine suddenly blew, requiring Peters to come to pit road under green-flag conditions. The Red Horse Racing team quickly changed right-side tires on the No. 17 Toyota Tundra, but the untimely pit stop cost them valuable track position. Two laps down to the leader, Peters reported that he was battling a loose-handling truck. The Marcus Richmond-led team made chassis adjustments during scheduled, yellow-flag pit stops on laps 37 and 47 that greatly improved the balance. Peters was turning fast laps around the 1.5-mile speedway when his teammate’s engine expired on lap 54. Unable to avoid the oil on the track’s surface, the No. 17 Toyota Tundra slid up the track and made hard contact with the outside wall. The damage was too severe to continue, ending their night early and relegating the championship contender to a 24th-place finish.

Timothy Peters Quote:

“Well, this wasn’t how we expected the night to go. It’s a shame that we blew the tire and wound up back in traffic and two laps down [to the leader]. Our No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra started the race on the loose side, but the changes that the team made helped. We were really fast after that. Red Horse Racing just had rotten luck tonight. Germán (Quiroga)’s motor blew and we had nowhere to go. I hit oil on the track and at that point, I was just along for the ride. We’ll head to Gateway (Motorsports Park) next weekend and make up some of the ground that we lost tonight.”
