Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team secured the eighth starting position following the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ first attempt at the new elimination-style qualifying format on Friday afternoon. As the sun began to dip in the Kansas City sky, Peters took the green flag from the fourth row to start the SFP 250. Before the field could complete lap one, melee ensued in turn four. The No. 17 Tundra received damage in the multi-truck incident and Peters drove to pit road so crew chief Marcus Richmond could assess the situation. With the font-end alignment out of balance, the team first attempted to make the adjustment on pit road and then proceeded to the Camping World Truck Series garage to complete the repairs. Peters returned to the race track six laps down to the leader. The No. 17 team continued to make chassis adjustments during scheduled pit stops throughout the remainder of the 167-lap event. With patience and perseverance, Peters climbed back into the top-15 and was scored with a 14th-place finish. The Camping World Truck Series veteran left Kansas Speedway second in the championship point standings, eight points behind leader Matt Crafton.

“This isn’t how we imagined our night would go at Kansas [Speedway]. We came here feeling optimistic after a solid test at Charlotte [Motor Speedway]. To have everything go wrong on the first lap is frustrating, but this team never threw in the towel. We just kept at it and finished the race. We’ll put this behind us and work hard to get ready for next Friday’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We have a lot of racing left in this season.”
