Peters Finishes Sixth at Martinsville Speedway; Retains NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship Points Lead

Hometown favorite, Timothy Peters and the No. 7 Parts Plus Toyota Tundra team started the rain-delayed Kroger 250 from the third position and remained a fixture near the front of the field at Martinsville Speedway until the final restart, when he was shuffled back to finish sixth. Inclement weather throughout Saturday afternoon forced the cancellation of both qualifying and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, postponing the second event of the 2014 season until Sunday. From the drop of the green flag, the Danville, Va. resident demonstrated that he was a contender for the win, taking over the lead for the first time on lap 16, and remained in the top five. With a well-balanced Toyota Tundra, crew chief Marcus Richmond called for four-tires and fuel during routine pit stops while under yellow-flag conditions. Peters continued to trade positions for the lead, pacing the field for a total of 49 laps. The eighth caution of the evening would force competitors into overtime and the first of two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish. On the final restart on lap 255, Peters was in the second position but was shuffled out of line. An accident on lap 256 following the white flag would freeze the field with the No. 17 Parts Plus Toyota Tundra in the sixth position. Peters will head to Kansas Speedway in May tied for the Camping World Trucks Series championship points lead with Johnny Sauter.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“Martinsville Speedway produces some wild and exciting racing, and today that’s exactly what it was out there. We got moved out of the way on that final restart, but that’s Martinsville, you know; tempers are going to flare. I want apologize to all of the guys back at the shop. Thanks to Parts Plus, Valvoline NET10 Wireless, OtterBox, Bullet Liner, Liquid Performance and everybody that helps out this organization. We appreciate all of their support. Unfortunately, the fastest truck didn’t win again. But we’ll regroup and head to Kansas (Speedway) in May.”
