ASA Sanctioned Marshfield Motor Speedway Opens this Saturday with Familiar Face Taking Over

The off-season has been busy for Wayne Brevik.  Not only does he spend his winter officiating college and high school basketball, but he also has been planning the 2012 season at Marshfield Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Marshfield, WI.  If he wasn’t busy enough, he decided to add more responsibility at the half-mile asphalt oval.

“This is going to be my fourth year as the Promoter/General Manager, and this year I decided to take over the full operations of Marshfield Motor Speedway,” Brevik announced.  “It has been an overwhelming job, but with the help of Dennis Huth and his staff at ASA Racing, everything is going well with this transition. The big thing I realized is that there is more behind the scenes than what I realized in operating a track and Dennis has been a great mentor.”

Brevik is not doing this alone.  “My good friends Al and Jane Schiferl have been great partners to me,” Brevik said. “Al is my partner with our Redline Motorsports team and Jane is my right hand help at the track.  Jane does a great job of keeping me in line. Whenever we have a disagreement, she usually wins!”

Marshfield Motor Speedway will be entering their second season as an ASA Member Track.  It’s a partnership that Brevik is thankful to have, especially with the off-season transition.  “First of all, I will tell you that I still have a lot to learn.  Being with the ASA Member Track program has helped me immensely as a track operator,” Brevik explained. “I can’t imagine a track, anywhere, going on without the help they have provided to me.  Whenever I make a call to anyone at ASA, they are quick to respond with an answer to any question I have had.  The insurance part is a huge deal and I know our drivers appreciate this coverage.”

Brevik is excited about the upcoming season especially with their super late model division.  They held an open practice session this past weekend. “We had a great number of super late models practicing this past weekend,” Brevik said. “In fact, some longtime fans came out to watch practice and commented that they haven’t seen this many cars at the first practice of the year at the track.  So that gives us a good feeling.”

He also feels that with the talented field of drivers expected to compete this season, they could be a contender for the ASA Member Track National Championship.  Some of these drivers include Jason Weinkauf, who won the ASA Midwest Tour event at Marshfield last year; Corey Jankowski, who led the National Championship standings during the 2010 season; and Randall Wilhorn, who finished second in the track standings last season.

“We are proud to have Marshfield Motor Speedway as part of our ASA Member Track program,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  “The track has a great history and hosts exciting racing every Saturday night.  Wayne has done a great job of providing a first class racing program every Saturday night. We wish them a great 2012 season.”

Marshfield Motor Speedway’s scheduled opener was rained out.  They are planning to open their 2012 season this Saturday with a full racing program. Qualifying starts at 5pm with Racing at 6pm.
