ASA Racing Congratulates their 2011 Champions

With the motto “We Build Champions,” the American Speed Association is proud to showcase the 2011 Champions from the ASA Member Tracks and sanctioned Series.  A total of 185 drivers won a championship at an ASA Member Track or a sanctioned series this season.

“We are very proud of our 2011 class of champions within the ASA family,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  “Short track racing provides a great variety of racing for the fans to enjoy and competitors to choose which divisions they can compete in and have fun.  Congratulations to all of our 2011 ASA Champions.”

This season, the American Speed Association crowned champions on the national, regional and local level.  Here are the highlights from this season.

BARRY BEGGARLY – JOE GIBBS DRIVEN RACING OIL ASA MEMBER TRACK NATIONAL CHAMPION

The veteran driver from Pelham, NC won his fourth track championship at Ace Speedway this season.  He held off Zack Franks and Chrissy Wallace to win the national title.  He also is the first driver to win the ASA Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil Member Track National Championship and the NASCAR Winston Weekly Series championship (1993).

ANDREW MORRISSEY – ASA MIDWEST TOUR

Consistency paid off for the driver from DeForest, WI in 2011.  Andrew Morrissey has yet to win in the tour that celebrated their fifth season this year, but he now has an ASA Midwest Tour championship on his racing resume.  In 12 events, he had three fast qualifier awards, eight top-five and nine top-ten finishes.

CHRIS MAREK – ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR

The driver from Lakeville, MN successfully defended his championship in 2011.  Marek won the championship by 81 points over Scott Null.  He had three wins, one fast qualifier award, six top-five and six top-ten’s in seven starts.

JERRY WOOD – ASA MIDWEST TRUCK TOUR

It was also a back-to-back championship for the veteran driver from Sun Praire, WI.  But, it took a tiebreaker for him to defend it.  Wood tied with Austin Luedtke at the end of the season. He had two wins compared to Luedtke’s one that gave him the championship.  He had seven top-five and nine top-ten’s in ten starts.

GEOFF MORRIS – ASA ADVANCE TESTING BRITISH COLUMBIA LATE MODEL TOUR

TAYLOR MIINCH – ASA TRUCK SERIES

The high school student from El Cajon, CA had an impressive season in the popular truck series that competes in the southwest corner of the United States.  He won the first two events and had a consistent season.  Not only is he good behind the wheel but he has been showing his talents as a punter on his high school’s football team this season.

SIERRA JACKSON – ASA NORTHWEST SPRINT CAR RACING ASSOCIATION SPRINT CAR SERIES

Sierra made history this season as she was the first ever woman to be crowned the ASA/NSRA champion.  Not only that, but she was the youngest driver to win it and drove a Ford powered Sprint car to their first win.  She is currently attending Boise State to become a Physicians Assistant.

DANNY BAGWELL – ISCARS DASH TOURING SANCTIONED BY ASA

Danny successfully defended his championship in America’s Premier Tuner Car Series this season.  He also came one race shy of sweeping the entire season.  He won the championship by 92 points over Todd Hawkes.
