Beggarly and Joe Gibbs Racing Ready for Monday Tryout at Ace Speedway

Almost two months after being crowned the 2011 ASA Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil Member Track National Champion, Barry Beggarly will have his tryout on Monday, November 21 at Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC.  Beggarly will be working with the 2011 K&N Pro Series East championship team from Joe Gibbs Racing.

The session is scheduled to get underway around 9:30 – 10:00am on Monday and will probably go until around 3:00pm.  Fans are invited to watch the tryout from the grandstands for FREE.

“I am looking forward to it, this will be something different for me,” Beggarly recently said.  “An opportunity may come out of it, you never know.”

Beggarly will have his tryout at the track he is very familiar with, as he has won four championships at Ace Speedway.  His fourth came this season as he held off Jason York by six points to win the track title, which catapulted him to the ASA Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil Member Track National title.

The 2011 National Champion is eager to get behind the wheel, “I am looking forward to going to the track and working with some of the guys at Joe Gibbs Racing,” Beggarly said.  “I am sure that is going to be a treat in itself.  But I am also looking forward to going to their shop the next day and making a few friends over there.  Maybe they can help me sometime down the road.”

Bryant Frazier, the crew chief for the Joe Gibbs Racing championship team, will be the crew chief working with Beggarly at Monday’s test.  “I think it is going to be a real good test for us,” Frazier said.  “We are going to be very interested in trying a few things and getting his input on them.  I think Barry has so much experience in different avenues of racing that I think we can learn some things from him on this test.”

One thing that Frazier feels will help is that they are doing the test at a track that Beggarly is very familiar with and is a four-time champion.  “This is one of those deals where he can go out and tells us the car has to turn a little bit better and we go and do something,” Frazier explained.  “He is going to know the feel he wants to get around that racetrack. He is going to be able to evaluate us quickly as we evaluate him.”

This will be the second year in a row that Frazier will be working with the ASA Member Track National Champion.  Last year, he worked with 2010 Champion Bryan Wordelman from Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT.

“This is real exciting for us.  I have seen Barry race a lot and never got to meet him so will be excited to visit with him on Monday,” Frazier said.  “Last year, I didn’t know a lot about Bryan and within three to four laps he was right up to speed.  This is a testament to the talent you have competing at your ASA Member Tracks. This is a good avenue for us at Joe Gibbs Racing to look at new talent.”

Frazier has a full day planned for Beggarly and his team.  The plans include: trying different setups, tire management on a long run, and how fast he can go on a new set of tires.  This will be the same kind of test that Joe Gibbs Racing does with all perspective drivers.

On Tuesday, November 22, Beggarly will visit Joe Gibbs Racing in Huntersville, NC where he will get an up close tour of the facility and have a one-on-one meeting with JD Gibbs, JGR President and possibly Coach Joe Gibbs.

“We are excited about the upcoming test on Monday,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  “This is our fourth year of presenting this unique prize to our ASA Member Track National Champion.  We wish Barry nothing but the best on his test and his meeting with JD Gibbs.  This top prize is starting to catch the attention of drivers across the United States.  Many of our ASA Member Track promoters are hearing from drivers interested in competing at their tracks in 2012, just for this opportunity.”
