NXS: U.S. Cellular 250 Iowa Speedway Race Preview

The NASCAR XFINITY Series travels to Iowa Speedway for the eighth annual U.S. Cellular 250. The race marks the second trip to the facility in 2016 after racing there back on June 19. Ryan Blaney, who will not be racing at Iowa on Saturday, is the defending race winner.

A total of 41 drivers are featured on the entry list. Some of those include Sam Hornish Jr., Michael Lira, Dakota Armstrong, Brad Keselowski, Brandon McReynolds, Spencer Boyd, Drew Herring, Justin Marks, Josh Berry, Mario Gosselin, Dexter Bean, David Starr and Matt Waltz.

Sam Hornish Jr. will pilot the No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing on Saturday at Iowa. Hornish, who scored the win at Iowa this past June with Joe Gibbs Racing, will make his first ever start with Richard Childress Racing.

“I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time,” said Hornish in a release. “I have a lot of respect for Mr. Childress and can’t wait to drive for him. I really like racing at Iowa Speedway because the layout and character really fits my driving style. It’s going to be great to be back behind a Chevrolet. I won a lot of races with them in the IndyCar Series. The opportunity to work with the guys on the No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet provides me a shot to run up front and hopefully get another win in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.”

Hornish holds two victories at Iowa Speedway with Joe Gibbs Racing. He also holds six top five and six top 10 finishes through eight starts. The start on Saturday will mark his second of the year.

Brad Keselowski will join the NASCAR XFINITY Series fold at Iowa Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford. Keselowski enters the weekend still looking to capture his first win of the year.

The Michigan native will be the only driver who will run double duty both at Iowa and Pocono Raceway this weekend. With Keselowski getting his Sprint Cup Series car ready at Pocono, Austin Theriault will practice the car.

Josh Berry will run the No. 88 SunEnergy1 Chevrolet with JR Motorsports. Berry will make his first XFINITY start of the season and his fourth overall.

“I am really excited to get back in the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” said Berry in a release. “I can’t thank everyone at JR Motorsports and SunEnergy1 enough for giving me the opportunity. My first Xfinity race was at Iowa, so I feel like that experience will be a big benefit to me adapting back to the car. I have replayed my race from Richmond last year a thousand times, so I am definitely ready to get back in the No. 88 Chevrolet to give it another shot.”

Berry’s best finish came last season at Richmond with a seventh-place run. He enters the weekend looking to capture his first career win in the series.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series race will be televised live on NBCSN at 8:00 p.m. Et. The Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM Channel 90 will have the radio call.
