B.J. McLeod: “Back To Where It All Began”

Enjoying a well-deserved off week to digest tying a season-best 19th place finish earned at Iowa Speedway two weeks ago, B.J. McLeod and his B.J. McLeod Motorsports team head for the Sunshine State ready to do work in Friday night’s Subway Firecracker 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

McLeod returns to his home state of Florida, back to the place where it all began earlier this season when McLeod debuted his No. 78 Ford Mustang in the PowerShares QQQ 300 in the XFINITY Series season opener. Five months later, McLeod plans to inhale the knowledge he’s learned and have an explosive performance under the lights at the “World Center of Racing.”

“I told myself a couple weeks ago, I was going for it this weekend at Daytona,” offered McLeod. “This is the final restrictor plate race of the season and I really had been keeping our No. 78 Ford Mustang pretty safe knowing from Daytona in February that I wanted to use it at Talladega in April.

“Now, we’re back at Daytona and it’s time to get after it.”

With an eye on his first career top-10 finish on Friday night, McLeod will debut a new marketing partner in Safecraft Safety Equipment.

Safecraft Safety Equipment is used by most of the top professionals in Motorsports, Automotive, Aviation, Marine and other demanding industries. The Concord, California-based company is well known for their innovative designs and the highest quality of components available.

“I can’t thank Safecraft Safety Equipment enough for jumping onboard and helping us out this weekend at Daytona,” McLeod said. “One of the benefits to running the XFINITY Series schedule full-time is it has allowed us to build relationships and for that we’re thankful for. Hopefully, we can play the draft right, find the right partners and have a good night in our No. 78 Safecraft Safety Equipment Ford Mustang.”

Being one of the few XFINITY Series drivers and owners in the garage has its benefits, but as McLeod notes it also tends to put a lot more in perspective, especially when he’s footing most of the bill.

“I enjoy being an owner and driver,” said McLeod. “Sure it has its challenges, but we work hard to make it to the race track each and most of all, make sure we bring something competitive to the race track week in and week out. With the week off, we’ve been able to go over the Daytona car with a fine tooth comb – making sure we haven’t missed anything and we can go out there and do our thing for practice, qualifying and the race. Iowa was a great race for us and we want nothing more than continue that upward trend heading into this long summer stretch.”

Veteran industry crew chief George (David) Ingram Jr. will call the shots for the No. 78 Safecraft Safety Equipment Ford Mustang for the 15th race of the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.
