Narrowly Escaping The Big One, Yeley Finishes 16th at Talladega SuperSpeedway

Racing at Talladega is never short on entertainment value and today was no exception. JJ Yeley, behind the wheel of the No. 44 Zachry Toyota, qualified 10th to start the Sparks Energy 300. During an early caution, Yeley relayed the car was a ‘”little snug”. Crew Chief Frank Kerr called for fuel and a wedge adjustment. Adjustments seemed to be favorable as Yeley wheeled the Zachry Toyota into the Top-15 of the field. With another caution, Yeley brought the No. 44 to pit for two tires and fuel. NASCAR cited Yeley for speeding when exiting the pit and issued a pass thru penalty setting Yeley up to battle back through the field. He was steadily gaining positions and had landed back into the Top-15 when “the big one” occurred collecting multiple cars in its wrath. Although the Zachry Toyota sustained some damage, Yeley narrowly avoided being caught up in the worst of the incident. He persevered and secured a 16th place finish at Talladega SuperSpeedway.

JJ Yeley: “It was a roller coaster day in Talladega. We had a great qualifying effort and a good car but just couldn’t seem to catch the breaks that we needed during the race. The speeding penalty really set us back. We were gaining track position but unfortunately we got caught up in the wreck at the end. I really appreciate the efforts of Frank and the team for providing a good set-up, the pit crew for solid stops and Zachry for the opportunity to drive the No. 44.”
