NXS: Suarez Wins U.S. Cellular 250 Pole

Daniel Suarez will start on the pole at the Iowa Speedway for the seventh annual U.S. Cellular 250 for the second time of the year. Suarez posted a fast time and speed of 23.606 seconds, 133.441 mph. in the final round. The top 10 qualifying effort marks his 13th top 10 start of the season in his No. 18 AARIS Toyota.

“The car was good and strong,” Suarez told Speedway Digest. “My team did a great job with the adjustments from the first run, to the second run and to the final run. Hopefully we can finally make it happen tonight.”

Ryan Blaney will take the green flag right beside Suarez in the runner-up position. Blaney posted a time of 23.618 seconds, 133.373 mph. in the final five-minute round. The North Carolina native continues to search for his first win of the season after six previous attempts in 2015.

Brandon Gaughan will start the U.S. Cellular 250 in the third position when the green flag flies. Gaughan posted a time of 23.709 seconds, 132.861 mph. when the last round came to a close. The Las Vegas native will attempt to capture his third career XFINITY Series win on Saturday.

Drew Herring qualified the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota for Erik Jones on Saturday. Jones did not qualify the car as he ran in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race earlier in the day at the Pocono Raceway. The No. 54 Toyota will have to start at the rear for a driver change despite a fifth-place qualifying effort.

There will be no DNQ’s as 40 drivers showed up to race. There were no incidents in the three rounds.
