Tyler Young to make NASCAR XFINITY series debut in Kentucky

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) regular, Tyler Young will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) debut in the Kentucky 300 on Friday, July 10 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Currently 13th in the NCWTS driver point standings, Young will not only be making his first NXS start, but will also pull double duty, racing in both the NCWTS UNOH 225 and the NXS Kentucky 300.

The Midland, Texas native will wheel the No. 90 Randco Industries/Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet SS for King Autosport/SS Green Light Racing in the 200-lap event, an experience the 25-year-old driver has been looking forward to for some time.

“I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity with King Autosport and SS Green Light Racing,” said an enthused Tyler Young. “I’ve been working my whole life for an opportunity like this, and when one comes along, you can’t pass it up. Everyone has been working so hard to make this dream a reality, and I’m thankful that the time has finally come.”

Starting his racing career at the early age of 12, Young got his start in the International Karting Federation where he went on to win his first championship in 2004. Moving up the ranks to Hobby Stocks, Sport Modifieds and Modifieds, Young rounded out his racing career in Texas, in 2008, in order to move to Mooresville, NC to follow his dream.

Competing in the X-1R Pro Cup Series for six seasons, Young quickly adapted to the higher level of racing. Throughout his tenure in the series, Young collected one career win at Hickory Motor Speedway, six poles, 20 top-five and 40 top-10 finishes.

Young’s success led the Young’s Motorsports driver into the NASCAR ranks, running a part-time schedule in the NCWTS between 2012 and 2013, before his first full-time season in 2014. In just his rookie year, Young doubled his previous starts on the circuit and raced to five top-15 finishes, including a season best finish of 11th at Chicagoland Speedway. Now, in just his second full-time NCWTS season in 2015, Young has accumulated one top-10 and nine top-15 finishes.

With two previous starts at the fast mile-and-a-half Kentucky Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, Young has completed 97.3% of the laps attempted in both starts and is looking to improve upon his track-best finish of 20th from 2014.

Anxious to make his NXS debut, Young is ready to take on whatever challenges he may face when jumping up to the next level of NASCAR competition.

“I’ve raced at Kentucky Speedway a couple times before in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but I’m ready for the next step. It’ll be a learning curve for me, but my goal is to get as much experience as I can behind the wheel of the Randco Industries/Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet SS, complete all the laps, and hopefully walk away with a respectable finish.”

Calling the shots for Young and the No. 90 team will be Jason Miller, the current crew chief for fellow NCWTS driver, Ray Black Jr.
