NXS: Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 Event Preview

The NASCAR XFINITY Series heads to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the 33rd annual Drive to Stop Diabetes 300. The 300-lap event will mark the series seventh stop of the brand-new 2015 season. Kyle Busch, who is not entered as he continues to recover from the Daytona accident, comes into the weekend as the defending race winner.

The entry list features 40 different drivers, meaning nobody will go home after qualifying on Saturday morning. Some of the new faces this week include Timmy Hill, Carlos Contreras, Erik Jones, Joey Logano, John Wes Townley, Austin Dillon, Brennan Poole, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Todd Bodine.

Darrell Wallace Jr. comes into the weekend leading the Rookie of the Year points standings in the series. Wallace leads by 14 points over Daniel Suarez after a sixth-place finish last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway. Ross Chastain currently sits 18 points behind Wallace in third.

Todd Bodine will return to the NASCAR XFINITY Series this weekend behind the wheel of the No. 90 BigRig12.com Chevrolet. Bodine made two starts last season with the Viva Motorsports organization. His best finish came at the Darlington Raceway.

Roger Penske continues to lead the owner points standings for the third week coming into the Bristol Motor Speedway. The No. 22 Ford has a nine point lead over the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet. The No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing comes into the weekend sitting third.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series driver points are really tight coming into the Bristol Motor Speedway weekend. Ty Dillon leads by only two points over Chris Buescher in the No. 60 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing. Reigning champion, Chase Elliott, currently sits third with a gap of just 11 points. Darrell Wallace Jr. and Ryan Reed round out the top five.

You can watch Saturday’s Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 live on FOX Sports 1 at 1:30 p.m. Et. The Performance Racing Network will provide live radio coverage of the race.
