NXS: Jeffery Earnhardt to Pilot No. 55 at Bristol, Jamie Dick Still Not Cleared to Race

Viva Motorsports driver and owner Jamie Dick will sit out for another NASCAR XFINITY Series race this weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Dick became ill after the race at the Phoenix International Raceway and was later diagnosed with New Onset Diabetes. He has yet to be medically cleared.

“I have been anxious to get back in the racecar. I feel great and ready to go, but in this type of scenario, I have to listen to my doctors and not risk my health,” explains Dick in a press release.  “We are getting close to being medically cleared.  I am sure that the next time my turn to drive the No. 55 car comes around, I will be good to go.”

The team announced Wednesday that Jeffrey Earnhardt will pilot the No. 55 Chevrolet this weekend at Bristol. He has three previous starts for the team this season, including a 16th-place finish in the season opener at Daytona.

“I’m sorry that Jamie has to sit out, but I am grateful that he called on me to fill in,” said Earnhardt in a press release. “ The Viva Motorsports team has given me great cars all year.  I hope to go to Bristol and make Jamie, the team, and Viva Auto Group proud.”

Earnhardt has 63 career starts in the NASCAR XFINITY Series since his debut in 2009. The Mooresville, N.C. native has yet to score his first career top 10 finish.
