Penske Wins Second Consecutive Nationwide Owner’s Championship

Brad Keselowski finished out his 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series run with a pole at Homestead Miami Speedway and helped win Roger Penske the Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship. Keselowski wheeled the number 22 Ford to eighth place in the Ford EcoBoost 300 on Saturday afternoon, clinching Penske a second straight owner’s title by 23 points.

“It was a great day,” said Penske. “I thought that race would never get over. I think we had a green-white-checker and all we had to do was finish 25th, but you never know with all the action up front. Brad ran a great race. It’s obvious the Nationwide Series means so much to us because it’s proving ground. It’s the testing ground for our crew chiefs and young drivers.”

Five drivers piloted the number 22 Team Penske car this season including Keselowski with five wins, Ryan Blaney with one win among 10 starts, Logano with nine starts, Alex Tagliani with two starts, and Michael McDowell with one start. The common thread was crew chief Jeremy Bullins who was able to make consistent finishes with several drivers.

“I’m proud to be a part of this team,” said Keselowski. “It’s a season-long task, so it’s not a one-night accomplishment. Quite a few different drivers in this car and I’m honored to be one of them.”

This marks the fourth consecutive year Ford Racing and Roush Yates Engines have won a championship in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with two driver’s championships in 2011 and 2012 and two owner’s championships in 2013 and 2014.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finished out their season at Homestead Miami Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Joey Logano and Team Penske entered the EcoBoost 400 as a strong contender for the championship, qualifying ninth. The number 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford finished out the season with a solid fourth place finish in the championship standings.
