James Buescher Makes Career Changing Decision to Move on from Turner Scott Motorsports

James Buescher has accomplished a lot in his NASCAR career and is only 23-years-old still. Almost all of those accomplishments have come driving for Turner Scott Motorsports, a team that is co-owned by his father-in-law Steve Turner, including winning the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship.

Now, after four seasons competing for TSM, he has made the decision to leave the team and move to RAB Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series full time in 2014. The announcement was made back on December 13th and it is a move that he expects will help him move toward his goal of racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Buescher has won six career Truck Series races all in the past two seasons. He returned to the series to try to become the first -back-to-back champion in the Truck Series but came up short in 2013 by finishing third. He does have extensive Nationwide experience in his young career as well. In 58 career starts he has scored 14 top 10 finishes and was the surprise winner at the season opener in 2012 at Daytona when he avoided a last lap melee.

The decision to leave the family team for a new path was a difficult one but exciting one for Buescher.

“It definitely makes it that much harder to leave Turner Scott Motorsports,” Buscher said. “We’ve had a special four years in NASCAR together. It’s tough to walk away from that especially having my father in law the co-owner of the team. I think we all agree though it’s the best opportunity for me to go to next step in my career. It’s definitely going to be a change but everyone agrees it’s the best thing for me to do right now and everyone’s fully on board with it. It’s hard, but we’ll still support each other. It’s not something that was going to last forever, we knew that. He’s not in the Sprint Cup Series. Once I’m to that point, I would have had to leave anyway. It’s just a little sooner than we thought it would happen.”
 
With Turner Scott Motorsports only fielding Nationwide and Truck teams under the Chevrolet banner the switch to RAB Racing and Toyota opens a new career path for Buescher.
 
In the past RAB Racing has been affiliated with Michael Waltrip Racing so could Buescher be in line to end up at MWR in the Cup Series? In 2014 Waltrip’s team will only field two full time teams and have Jeff Burton drive a partial schedule in a third car. The room would be there in 2015 to expand back to three full time cars and with Buescher now at Toyota he would have to be a favorite for the seat.
 
Swan Racing is another Toyota team that has seemingly gone all in for the future by expanding to two full time teams for 2014. They have chosen peers of Buescher in Parker Kligerman and Cole Whitt to pilot their cars but Buescher could be in line if one does not perform to expectations. BK Racing could be hiring 2013 RAB Racing driver Alex Bowman to compete in the Cup Series this season so that could be another path to the top series for Buescher. Who knows maybe if he impresses enough Joe Gibbs Racing could feel compelled to expand to four cars and chose Buescher. That seems less likely than the other three Cup opportunities with Toyota teams though.
 
So while Buescher leaves one chapter of his racing career behind he has a very bright future to look forward to and it all starts at Daytona in February with RAB Racing in the Nationwide Series.
