When BK Racing opened its doors in February, very few expected to see the results it achieved in 2013. Since the season opener, the organization has charted 29 top-25s, 16 top-20s and one top-10 finish. Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 93 Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota, is looking to pad the stats with another solid performance this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Kvapil scored a 20th-place finish last weekend at Phoenix. It marked his second consecutive top-25 and his fifth top-25 in five of the last six events.
In seven Cup Series starts at Homestead, Kvapil has one top-10 and two top-25 finishes. His best finish is seventh place, which he achieved in 2008.
Comments from BK Racing Driver Travis Kvapil heading into Homestead:
“Homestead is a really cool track. It’s a mile-and-a-half track, but it’s pretty unique. It doesn’t have the dog legs like most of the intermediates we go to. It’s a true oval. It’s got pretty good grip. It was paved about five or six years ago, so we can still race where we need to, but there’s also some sliding around. The banking allows us to race up top or down low, or anywhere in between. You’ll see guys all over the place trying to find the line that works best for them. Our program has really picked up here in the last few months. It would be nice to go to Homestead and finish it off with a nice, solid top-20. Maybe we’ll be able to squeeze a top-10 out of it.
“The race track is right in Burger King’s backyard. We have some guests coming from the headquarters. We’re excited to have them down and we want to put on a good show for them.
“We’ve grown as a team in lots of ways this season, but our development of setups has really been a key to our success. We’ve done a really good job adapting to what our cars need. Part way through the season, they made a rule change about the side skirts on our cars and the whole garage area had to change their setups around that. I felt like we adapted really well. If you look at our results at the mile-and-a-half tracks, places like Michigan, Kansas and Texas, we’ve had some really solid finishes. Our little team has done a really good job figuring out what our cars need and getting the right setups under them. It’s really just a matter of working together over the year and understanding what works and doesn’t work for me. We’ve done a really good job of finding the right combinations.
“I’m excited about the off season. I’m going with my family on a cruise right after the race for about a week. It will be nice to put the season in the rearview mirror and relax on a boat for a few days with my wife and kids. After that, we’ll head up to Wisconsin for Christmas to visit some friends and family. We’ll spend a week or so playing in the snow, riding four wheelers, snow mobiles, ice fishing, all that stuff. Next thing you know, the 2013 season will be right around the corner, so we’ll enjoy the time off while we can.”
