Ambrose Enters Bristol with Burst of Momentum

Ambrose has plenty of momentum heading into Thunder Valley this weekend as he comes off of his second-consecutive top-five finish in Michigan last weekend. Ambrose will look to keep his streak alive this weekend as he will make his eighth career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Bristol Motor Speedway.

In addition to attempting to bring home his third-consecutive top five, Ambrose is looking for his second win of the season to help secure a wild card spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The two Chase wild cards go to the drivers 11th-20th in the standings with the most wins. If drivers are tied for one of those spots, points are used to determine who gets in. Kasey Kahne is the only driver with two wins, almost guaranteeing him a spot. That leaves one spot available and Ambrose is tied with four other divers with one win apiece. A victory in Bristol this weekend could go a long way in making Ambrose’s dream of being in the Chase a reality.

The Australian native has three top-10 finishes at Bristol. His best finish (third) came in 2009 and his best start (ninth) came in 2010. He has completed 3,339 of 3,503 laps attempted at the Tennessee track. Ambrose enters this weekend’s 266.5-mile race in 17th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Ambrose’s car will have a different look this weekend as DEWALT will return as the primary partner of the No. 9 Ford Fusion.

Don’t miss your chance to meet Ambrose this weekend in Bristol. Marcos will be a guest at the Ford Display on Saturday from 3:50-4:05 p.m. for a 15 minute Q-and-A session.

Marcos Ambrose’s Thoughts on Racing at Bristol: “I’m really looking forward to going to Bristol this weekend. We definitely have momentum on our side, and I can’t wait to get on the track and see what kind of DEWALT Ford my team has prepared this weekend. My crew and I are very focused on getting another win, and I think we’ve got a shot on Saturday night. We know we have to get another victory to try and get into the Chase and that exactly what we are going to try and do this weekend.

“I had a great car at Bristol earlier this spring and we got caught up in a mess early, knocking us out of contention. We are going back with that same car this weekend, so I feel confident about our chances. The past two weeks have been really exciting for our team and with this race being on Saturday night under the lights I expect to see a lot more excitement this weekend.”

Comments from Crew Chief Todd Parrott on Going to Bristol: “Our DEWALT team is walking a little taller each week. Our win at Watkins Glen and top five last weekend in Michigan has really given us all a boost of confidence heading into Bristol this weekend. All of the guys have worked hard to make the cars the best they can be, and Marcos has been driving his tail off the past few weeks. Now we just have to carry that momentum to Thunder Valley this weekend.

“We were fast in Bristol in the spring before we got wrecked, and we are taking that same car back this weekend. Hopefully we’ll have a fast hot rod that can get another win for our team and a chance at making the Chase.”
