Robby Gordon not Expected to Race in NASCAR for the 2013 Season

NASCAR veteran Robby Gordon, is not expected to race in NASCAR during the upcoming 2013 season. It will be the first time that Gordon does not race in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race since the 1999 season.

Last year Gordon, at the age of 43, raced his way into the Daytona 500 and also raced at the second race of the season at Phoenix before not qualifying for the race at Las Vegas and Fontana. Gordon did race his third race of the season at Sonoma but in all three events Gordon did not finish.

Spokesperson Alison McCabe said she doesn’t think Gordon will participate in NASCAR due to his involvement in his new racing project, Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Trucks series. The 12-race off-road stadium series will debut April 6 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The Stadium Super Trucks series will be televised by NBC and the NBC Sports Network.

Gordon had raced for his own team in the Sprint Cup Series since 2006 but faced major sponsorship issues which forced him out in 2012. In 396 Sprint Cup Series starts dating back to 1991 Gordon has three wins, 16 top 5’s, 39 top 10’s and one pole. His best points finish came in 2003 when he ran the full season for Richard Childress Racing when he won twice and finished 16th. He also had one win in 54 Nationwide Series starts in his career.
