Gilliland Prepares to Finish Third Season with Front Row Motorsports

Completing his third season with the team, David Gilliland has the most starts than any other driver in Front Row Motorsports (FRM) history. He will be making his 104th start for the Statesville-based race team this weekend at the Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway. With three years under his belt at FRM, it makes him the senior driver at the place he’s called home since 2010.

Over the past three seasons, Gilliland has helped improved the organization by becoming the first driver to give the team its first top-five finish. The finish, a third in the 2011 Daytona 500, is its highest to date. Gilliland has also earned half of FRM’s top-10 finishes in its young history.

Heading to Homestead for the season finale this weekend, Gilliland is just three points behind 29th in points. He hopes to jump into that position and ensure that both FRM teams complete the season in the top-30 in driver standings. Gilliland has a best finish of 25th at Homestead.

David Gilliland Comments on Homestead:

“It has been a fun last three years. FRM been a great place to work and help them grow. I think all of us have made improvements with the organization. This year, we didn’t get the top-10 or top-five finishes that we hoped, but we were a lot more consistent. We were a lot better overall on the track and that helped us improve this year.

“I look back over the summer and we had a string of four races in the top-20. Then, over the last month we had another string of good results. It just seems like we had a more consistency this year. We need to get more of that and improve on the finishes, but it shows that we continue to move in the right direction. Each year, we continue to improve.

“We had our opportunities for some big results at both plate races this year. For us, we did well at Talladega, but didn’t have any luck at Daytona. But, we also ran so much better at other places. Pocono, Darlington, Kansas and Charlotte were tracks that we had much better results. That is something we can build upon. I’m looking forward to that in 2013.”
